The Legal Refugee Center (LRC) is currently operating inside Congolese refugee camps in Burundi, delivering critical protection and psychosocial services to displaced populations.
Our interventions are active in:
Busuma Camp (Ruyigi)
Musenyi Camp (Rutana)
Makombe Transit Site (Rumonge)
We are committed to protecting the dignity, safety, and mental well-being of vulnerable refugees through the following emergency programs:
The Legal Refugee Center provides immediate psychological and emotional support to refugees affected by trauma, displacement, and violence.
Our interventions include:
Individual and group counseling for trauma-affected refugees
Psychological First Aid (PFA) and community-based mental health support
Establishment of safe listening spaces for highly vulnerable individuals
Structured support sessions to strengthen coping mechanisms and resilience
We work to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through survivor-centered and community-driven approaches.
Our activities include:
Community awareness campaigns on GBV risks and available response mechanisms
Safe identification and confidential referral of survivors through established protection pathways
Engagement of women, youth representatives, and community leaders to strengthen local protection networks
Promotion of safe reporting mechanisms and survivor dignity
Children and adolescents face heightened risks during displacement. LRC prioritizes their safety, protection, and development.
Our child protection interventions include:
Creation of safe spaces for at-risk children and adolescent girls
Life skills training and resilience-building sessions for displaced adolescents
Psychosocial support activities tailored to children
Distribution of dignity kits and hygiene supplies to vulnerable girls and women
Through these integrated emergency services, the Legal Refugee Center continues to restore hope, strengthen resilience, and promote protection for Congolese refugees in Burundi.
